This awesome picture was taken in the Bitterroot National Forrest in Montana, August,6,2000, by a fire behavior analyst from Fairbanks, Alaska, John McColgan; with a digital camera. Since he was working while he took the picture, he cannot sell or profit from it. So, he should at least be recognized as the photographer of this once in a life time shot. This is an incredible picture!
Updated 12/28/02: I have been getting emails, asking where they could find
John McColgan. I don't know him personally nor have I ever contacted him. I
suggest to everyone that searches for him should leave him alone. He may
want his privacy now because of all the publicity that he has gotten lately. Please
